Dumpster Rental Helpful Tips

Please take the time to read our helpful tips intended to avoid safety concerns and unnecessary additional expenses.

Overhanging Wires

A very common safety concern with dumpster rental services are overhanging wires which will hinder delivery and removal efforts of your dumpster. When selecting a drop off location for your dumpster it is always prudent to ensure up to 22’ feet above the dumpster placement location is free of any overhanging electrical street wires. Depending on what type of dumpster you choose it is possible that such a height clearance will be required to safely service your dumpster. Ensuring that a clear and safe area is set aside for your dumpster will also prevent unforeseeable trip charges and other charges incurred due to the driver having to make additional trips to deliver your dumpster.

Access the to Dumpster

Please note that both roll off and front load dumpster trucks are large vehicles that will need reasonable space to maneuver in order to safely access and remove or dump your dumpster. Thus, we recommend that you select an area that a dump truck can reasonably access. Common challenges when attempting to access a dumpster include tight alleys, having to back up for a large distance and not having sufficient space to make a three-point-turn. If you are unsure about the area you have selected. We will dispatch a driver to conduct a site survey to ensure there are no safety concerns in servicing your dumpster. Site surveys are conducted at no cost to you.

Over Weight Roll Off Dumpsters

Federal, state and local laws do call for some very specific restrictions on the maximum amount of weight a dump truck can haul or that may be placed in a roll off dumpster. Such restrictions are intended for the safety of the operator as well as others on the road. An overweight dumpster and dump truck will severely hinder the truck’s ability to stop or slow down in a reasonable space. Weight restrictions do vary widely throughout the Unites States. Some common practices can alleviate both safety concerns and additional expenses and burdens. When renting a roll off dumpster please adhere to the following common practices:

  • Limit your dumpster size to a 10-15 cubic yard dumpster if disposing primarily of heavy construction materials such as bricks, blocks, concrete and asphalt.
  • Do not fill the dumpster beyond the water line, which is typically about 6 inches below the rim of the dumpster.
  • If renting a 40 cubic yard roll off dumpster, please be cautious of the amount of heavy materials placed inside the dumpster.

Please note that our drivers do reserve the right to refuse to haul any roll off dumpster they feel to be dangerously overweight. In such cases, an additional roll off dumpster will be provided at your expense to allow offloading enough material from the full dumpster to the empty dumpster to alleviate the safety concern. Please consider such facts when selecting the appropriate dumpster for your needs.

Selecting the correct dumpster

Selecting the correct dumpster is the single most important decision to avoid unnecessary future expenses. A dumpster that is either too large or too small can cause increased expenditures that are easily avoided with some due diligence.

If you are a homeowner or contractor seeking temporary roll off dumpster services please consider the total amount of debris being disposed of in the dumpster. Next, please pay close attention to our dumpster dimensions and capacities intended to provide you with easy references to calculate your dumpster rental needs. Please note that roll off dumpsters are charged on a per haul basis. In order to minimize your expenses it is recommended that you neither purchase a dumpster that is too small or a dumpster that is too large. A dumpster that is too large simply costs you more than what is necessary. On the other hand, a dumpster that is too small may need to be hauled multiple times which will increase your expenditures substantially.

If you are a business owner seeking scheduled weekly services, please pay close attention to the capacities of our permanent dumpsters. For your convenience, these dumpster capacities have been translated to kitchen sized (13 gallon) trash bags to provide you with a point of reference. Please note that scheduled permanent dumpsters are billed monthly. A useful tip to help you reduce your monthly expenses with scheduled services are to purchase the largest dumpster you have space for and have it dumped as infrequently as possible. Waste hauler’s # 1 costs are associated with the operation of the truck and driver time. The fewer times we run the truck to your location, the less our costs are and the less you pay. Please note that the state of California does require general waste dumpsters to be hauled / dumped a minimum of one time per week for sanitary purposes.
